Flash meet Jaguar, Jaguar meet Flash
Earlier this week I attended a seminar held by Adobe about Flash 8 Professional and it’s capabilities. Being a Flash Developer I’m always interested in learning how others are using this program to help me broaden my experience in developing Flash applications.
The speaker started off by mentioning how well the Flash Player has done, no duh! He went on and mentioned some of the places he’s seen it used like on Cell Phones, PDAs, Cameras, Media center controllers, and even on the interface of a web-enabled refridgerator! He also mentioned that the newest place he’s seen it being used is on the upcoming 2007 Jaguar XK to provide a richly driven GUI for their navigation system which is developed by Alpine.
This really excited me. For years I’ve been amazed at the capabilites of Flash and it’s ability to provide nice animation and such a rich programming environment. And with the latest updates with Flash 8 and it’s Player allowing great video encoding and a richer API makes it even more exciting. The thought of having a navigation system in my car that has a Flash enabled GUI is great news.
After I got home I found this article on carpages.co.uk talking more about this.
UPDATE: I just receieved an email from Adobe about the release of the May/June 2006 Adobe Edge Newsletter that talks about this. Visit the Adobe site to read the article.
